Why Marbles My 1st blog attempt Was an answer to a promise I made to my eldest son when I handed him a jar full of marbles. The marbles were from a collection saved by my mother over the years of my childhood, and I must admit that if left to me I would have already lost all of my marbles. My son asked if I could jot down some of the ways these marbles were used I told him I would write down as much as I could remember and send it to him later. I am the supreme procrastinator of all time which resulted in him sending me a reminder at which time he promised not to lose my marbles and I reassured him that I would get busy and tell him and his children how the beautiful round bits of glass and minerals were used for amusement and competition. My Response2 blog arose out of frustration with the attitudes and lack of respect for our country, our traditional ethics, and educational system. Rons Lyrics and Poetry started just because my scribbles needed a place to rest.

"THAT FOOL IS ME"

That Fool is Me
© Ron Burres
July 10, 1981 Wilsonville, OR

As I sit here alone on this barstool

And stare across at the mirror

I see the old face of a fool I once knew

Who now hangs his head in despair

(chorus) I wonder just what had to happen

To  take the fire from his eyes

Was it the loneliness of all those years

Or just his tears when he cries

I see him through eyes blurred from drinkin’

And to many hours without sleep

I see the old face of a fool I once knew

Who seems to burnt to even care

(Who now seems to burnt to care)

His hair is all gray and matted

From sleepin’ outside in the streets

His coat is all torn and tattered

Lord, it looks like the one

Wrapped round me

(spoken) I watch him think back thru his years, His face it looks befuddled, as he tries to place where he’s at.

I see the face of an old fool I once knew. I just can’t remember from where.

1. THE JOURNEY or OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING

Years ago I started a poem, one that would look at the birth sequence and the life of a human being.  It was going to be an epic poem that pertained and looked at the travels a person went through during his life.  Well like so many other projects it has gone neglected and covered with dust and cobwebs.
This whole Don't Lose My Marbles project was an undertaking designed to give my offspring and theirs some kind of understanding of one half of whom they sprang from..  So I have now decided that the Journey project will continue not as an epic poem but as some semblance of a journal as seen through the memory, (rapidly failing as it may be), with as much honesty as I can grasp ahold of today.
          OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING
THE JOURNEY BEGINS (c) Ron Burres

A jolt
Conception,   A joining of energy.
Life energy flowing quickly,
Molecules transformed into being.
Energy’s choice, This womb, This place.

Putting away past banks of memory,
To experience difference, change,
Another life, to be born anew,
Another life journey I begin.
2
Is it again
Hints of past being fade
In their place rhythmic motion
A flowing ebbing sensation
Energy of another flowing through I
Not of I, but joining with.
Then experience
Throbbing sound, a giant heart,
Pumping life fluid to I,
Awareness of warmth, safety, security
Surrounded by embryonic shell and womb.
3
As I grows
Awareness of something more
Thoughts coming not from I
But yet into and becoming part
Influencing the I
Suddenly
There is fear.  I know I am not wanted
How strong that is known

There now a part, how to be loved
I will gain all that is needed.
What is is existence.
The journey begins.

GOOD FRIDAY 2017

Another Good Friday (that makes 77 of them). This one turned a light on in my mind.  It seems strange that after so many years of going through the Easter and Lenten rigors of my Catholic upbringing and schooling, the message of what Christ endured had escaped me.  This week I made an effort to read the Gospel of Mark in which he spoke of the life of Christ on through the Crucifixion.  Today I read the part regarding His passion and the pain that he endured.

In the past in reading and listening to what took place in the last few hours of that phase of his life, it was always about the humiliation and the physical abuse our Lord went through.  Today it struck me just how much He must have loved us.  Throughout the teaching of Christ, his message was not only of looking toward the Father but He also was very emphatic about loving our neighbor.  Many of His parables spoke of those who cared for the welfare of others, the power of forgiveness and second chance.

Later on during the veneration of the Stations of the Cross, coupled with a message given earlier during service at the Vatican, a thought began to germinate in this old mind and heart.

The what Christ endured for certain has an impact but in reality that is the exclamation point to the fact of the amount of Love that it would require for any being to knowingly put themselves in a situation that horrific.  Christ did that to purchase forgiveness for us.  Christ allowed that to happen because he hated sin so much he could not allow sin to be victorious.  The pain and anguish he suffered was no doubt far less than what he experienced during his stay in hell prior to his resurrection.  Yet, foreseeing all that, He loved us, we sinners, so much that He gave Himself up as ransom.  He knew we were unable to earn Heaven without that payment.

I think His message is the same as it was during His life on earth as He forgave so many, the woman at the well, Mary Magdalene, and even those who brought about his execution.  Remember him calling out “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.”  As we strive to follow His example, let me please do at least this much.

Let me hate only the sin and never the sinner.  Let me condemn only the sin and never the sinner.  Let me always know that I have a soul bought and paid for with the greatest love ever known to mankind.  Thank you Jesus

He said I AM

HE SAID

MY NAME IS I AM

I WAITED

WHEN YOU LIVE IN THE PAST

WITH ITS MISTAKES AND REGRETS

IT IS HARD

I AM NOT THERE

MY NAME IS NOT

WHEN YOU LIVE IN THE

FUTURE

WITH ITS PROBLEMS AND FEARS

IT IS HARD

FOR I AM NOT THERE

MY NAME IS NOT

I WILL BE

I AM ONLY HERE

NOW

MY NAME IS I AM
Help is just an ask away, Trust is difficult and I struggle with it almost every moment of every day.  I really think that those that have that trust in the Lord are truly blessed beyond any good fortune.
I do know that we have a choice as to how we react to our world and if we choose the now system it works well.
God bless

RECOLLECTION AND HEARSAY GRANDPA

Some of what I dispense will be from my recollections and first-hand experience and most will be from anecdotal tales passed on by family members.  I think that the way I can best approach this is to incorporate it all into a tale about times spent growing up and the memories I have about our family.
I never got to know too much about my maternal ancestors but shall try to tell what I know as to where they originated from, their lives, and their interactions with mom that affected my own life.
I think that mom always associated herself with her mother’s side of the tree branch than with that of her “Pop”.  The reason for that is probably because of being raised Catholic by Grandma Wieland, while Grandpa’s relatives were not of that faith.
GRANDPA WIELAND: In fact Grandpa Wieland had been so emotionally angered toward God by WWI that a rift was ever present in their relationship.  I have no idea about Grandpa before the war but I can only guess that he was not the same Hank Wieland that Grandma married.
The Grandpa I remember in my earliest years, (probably before I turned six or so) spent time with me that allowed me to feel closer to him than any of my other family members can.  I remember going on the trolley cars into downtown Portland (OR), going to the barber shop with him, a trip to the haberdashery where he got his favorite hat cleaned and blocked, and one walk in particular where I found a genuine sheriffs badge that I cherished but like many things got lost in the passage of time.

In later years I found out that Grandpa suffered the illness of alcoholism and regardless of how it first gained its place in his life I believe it stole a lot of the joy he could have experienced.  To this day I believe that illness is one of the most insidious thieves a person and their family can experience.

MEMORY AND HERITAGE

I’M SURE THAT SOME ARE INTERESTED
IN THOSE FOLKS FROM THE PAST
WHO RESIDE SOMEWHERE IN OUR FAMILY TREE,
BUT DON’T EXPECT TO LEARN VERY MUCH
FROM MY FAILING AND SOMEWHAT
QUESTIONABLE MEMORY

CHOICES: DESIGN

I remember my senior year in high school we all had to take an aptitude test and it seems I should have paid attention to the results.  The results of this test were disconcerting for me due to them showing my highest aptitude was in architecture and my second was in nursing.  I totally put the results into the discard advice part of my life.  Architecture was out of the question because I would have to be good at math and geometry. My grades were evidence to the possibility of  success in this field would be minimal at best.  Nursing of course was totally out of the question because that was a woman's work. (my how things have changed).
It's interesting how the little things in life can effect major results and decisions.  The actions of one teacher in high school algebra class, coupled with my lack of confidence and search for approval, stopped my growth in the understanding and application of math which put an end to a career in architecture.  For a period of time.
Long story shortened to hmmmm.  Life's circumstances herded me into jobs that led me into building custom homes which made learning design criteria part of a natural progression.  I eventually succumbed to a passion for designing homes for everyday people.  Homes, that would give everyone a chance to have more than they originally thought possible.  I hope my new endeavor will do the same.

My Signature Home Designs will start with some of my best designs, from years past, acting as concepts with improved amenities and traffic patterns.  Hope you will enjoy them.

PROCRASTINATION AGAIN...LONG TIME NO WRITE. HMMMMMMMMM

Once again I take my time being perfect (impossible, but still using the excuse).  It's been a long time since I added anything to my marbley thoughts and rememberances.  That's what can happen when you do things to get acknowledgement from others.  There are somethings in life you do just because.
Writing for me is one of those things.  However, this last period of inactivity has been the non-product of feeling it's all a waste of time and effort if I'm the only one interested in reading about me, myself, and I.
At this time in my life I finally have the time and inclination to examine what in the heck happened during the last 3/4's of a century and why I've made some of the decissions, good  and bad.  In sharing these mental meanderings perhaps my children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all those yet to come may gain some insight into their own lives.  That hope of possible use, although not instant gratification, hopefully will help me to continue to share with the unknown reader.

PAID FOR

How often do we neglect to stand up for the "why we believe", "The price in human terms paid for our personal salvation" , how small our own sacrifices in comparison and how minute and minimal our own AGAPE is in comparison to that of the Father who gave His only Son to cleanse our natures.
This is a copy of an e-mail I received.  Well worth the time of reading and thinking about.
TRUE APPRECIATION OF HIS SUFFERING.     (The cost of eternal forgiveness paid for each of us.)

At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to the death penalty.
At the time crucifixion was the "worst" death. Only the worst criminals  were condemned to be crucified. Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus,
for unlike other criminals condemned to death by crucifixion, Jesus was nailed to the cross by His hands and feet, rather than tied...

Each nail Was 6 to 8 inches long.  The nails Were driven into His wrist. Not into His palms as is commonly portrayed.  There's a tendon in the wrist that Extends to the shoulder and the Roman guards knew that when the nails were being hammered into the wrist, that the tendon would tear and break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support himself in order for Him to breathe.
Both of His feet were nailed together. Thus He was forced to support Himself on the single nail that impaled His feet to the cross. Jesus could not support himself with His legs for long because of the pain, so He was forced to alternate between arching His back and using his legs just to continue to breathe. Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, and the courage.
Jesus endured this reality for over 3 hours.    Yes, Over 3 hours! Can you imagine this kind of suffering?  A few minutes before He died, Jesus stopped bleeding. He was simply pouring water from his wounds.

From common images we see wounds to His hands and feet and even the spear wound to His side. We often forget  the many wounds made to his body.  A hammer driving large nails through the wrists, the feet overlapped and a nail hammered through the arches of his feet.
The Roman guard piercing His side with a spear. Before the nails and the spear, Jesus was whipped and beaten. The whipping was so severe that it tore the flesh from His body. The beating was horrific.  A crown of thorns (two to three inch thorns) cut deeply into His scalp. Most
Men would not, could not, have survived these tortures.  He had three nails hammered into His body;  a crown of thorns forced onto His head and, beyond that, a Roman soldier who stabbed a spear into His chest just to verify His death.
All of this not to mention the humiliation as He passed through the streets carrying His own instrument of death, His Cross  (the cross beam was almost 30 kg of weight.   He endured this humiliation for almost 2 kilometers, while the crowd spat in His face and they threw stones which had to cause more pain and wounds.   Jesus was naked, all his clothing was removed to further humiliate Him in front of everybody.

PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THIS.
Jesus endured this experience that you may have free access to God.  So that your sins can be "washed" away”.
*ALL* *OF THEM, WITH NO EXCEPTION!*   JESUS CHRIST DIED...FOR YOU!

He died for each of us as individuals, His cost was great, and our cost is merely to accept that forgiveness as our own with the acknowledgement of our own sinful acts.  A small price to pay for the gift of Love and Grace sent directly to you and me from God our Father.
It is easy to e-mail jokes or silly photos, but when it comes to God, we often feel ashamed or afraid to forward a message about Him to others.
We are worried of what they may think.
Accept the reality, the truth, that
JESUS IS THE ONLY SALVATION FOR THE WORLD.
God has special plans for *YOU*!
Share this with all your friends...
May God bless you!  Always remember HE ALREADY HAS.

(Matthew 10:32 & 33):* "Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge

before My Father in heaven; but whosoever denies Me before others, I also will deny before My Father in heaven".

DO YOU REMEMBER

Ron Burres 5/27/2010
DO YOU REMEMBER

FROM HIS WHEEL CHAIR
HE SPOKE

DO YOU REMEMBER HOW HARD WE FOUGHT
DO YOU REMEMBER WHY
DO YOU REMEMBER THE RIGHTS WE SOUGHT
WHEN WE WENT TO DIE
IT WASN’T JUST ABOUT OUR PRIDE
ALTHOUGH WE HAD THAT TOO
WE CHOSE TO GO AND JOIN THE FIGHT

BRINGING  JUSTICE TO OUR CAUSE
TO ENSURE A HERITAGE JUST FOR YOU

EVEN THOUGH FREEDOM IS A RIGHT
IT IS SELDOM GIVEN FREE
GOD BLESS THE SOULS THAT GAVE THEIR LIVES
FOR STRANGERS LIKE YOU AND ME

ALWAYS REMEMBER WHY

COLOR ME HUMAN (C) Ron Burres

I SEE A LOT OF THEM IN THE NEWS
AND ON THE TV
THEY JUST DON’T SEEM TO SEE THINGS
THE SAME AS ME
THEY SEE HATRED AND ANGER WHERE EVER THEY LOOK
WHEN I LOOK OUT AT THE WORLD
THIS IS WHAT I SEE

I SEE CHILDREN SINGING WITH JOY IN THEIR VOICE
I SEE PARENTS LOVING GIVING LIFE AS THEIR CHOICE
I SEE BLINDNESS OF COLOR IN THE MAKING OF MAN
I SEE SAMENESS IN ALL, JUST THE ONE RACE

HUMAN

A PICTURE IN MY MIND © Ron Burres

A PICTURE IN MY MIND                                    © Ron Burres

I HAD THIS PICTURE IN MY MIND
OF A GENTLE AGELESS LOVE
THAT EXISTED THROUGHOUT
ALL TIME
OF WARM SUMMER BREEZES
ON WHITE SANDY BEACHES
SHARED WITH YOU

LIKE SOME UNENDING RHYME

IT'S NO SUPRISE

IT’S NO SUPRISE
HIS EYES LOOKED SO SAD AND FULL OF PAIN
IT WAS AS IF HE COULD NEVER LOVE AGAIN
HE SAID EACH TIME THE PAIN IS SO DIFFERENT
BUT SOMEHOW IT ALWAYS HURTS JUST THE SAME.

WELL THERE AIN’T NO SUPRISES, IVE SEEN IT ALL
FROM THE SHORT AND THE FAT, TO THE SKINNY AND TALL
WE ALL LIKE TO DANCE AND HAVE A GOOD TIME
BUT WHEN IT COMES TO LEAVIN
IT’S ALWAYS THE SAME,
 IT’S NEVER ME

IT’S SOMEONE ELSE WHO’S ALWAYS TO BLAME

DRIFTING IN MY MIND

DRIFTING IN MY MIND    (C) Ron Burres  2014

YOU TURN GENTLY IN YOUR SLEEP
YOUR BREATH SPEAKING SOFTLY TO MY HEART
AS IT BEGINS TO POUND WITH IN MY CHEST

I LAY THERE LISTENING TO THOUGHTS
THAT GO DRIFTING THROUGH MY MIND
DISCOVERING A ME I THOUGHT WAS LOST
WAY BACK  IN ANOTHER LIFETIME

THE AMERICAN SOLDIER

THE AMERICAN SOLDIER    (C) Ron Burres 2004

(Song spoken  MUSIC: Battle hymn of the republic in background)

I AM THE HEART AND SOUL OF OUR COUNTRIES FIGHTING MAN
WHO DIED FIGHTING ON FOREIGN SOIL PROTECTING THOSE IN ANOTHER LAND
THEIR FREEDOM WAS MY GOAL, YES FREEDOM WAS MY GOAL

I PROUDLY CARRIED THE STARS AND STRIPES, THROUGH BATTLES IN FREEZING COLD
I'VE FOUGHT IN DESERTS, ON LAND AND SEA, WITH A HEART BOTH BRAVE AND BOLD
IV’E DIED ALONE ON FOREIGN SOIL WITH MY FAMILY CRYING THERE AT HOME.

I AM THE SPIRIT OF THOUSANDS OF SOULS, THOSE WHO DIED BEFORE THEIR TIME
THEY GAVE THEIR ALL FOR FELLOW MAN, THEY NOW REST IN SOME FOREIGN LAND
THEY FOUGHT FOR FREEDOM, YES FREEDOM WAS THEIR GOAL

THEY FOUGHT BESIDE ONE ANOTHER OTHER, REGARDLESS OF COLOR OR CREED
WITH FAMILIES LEFT AT HOME TO MOURN, THEY CAME TO PROTECT A HUMAN NEED
WHERE ARE THOSE OTHER COUNTRIES NOW,  WHERE ARE THEY WHEN WE BLEED,

STAND UP AND BE COUNTED, STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT
STAND UP FOR THOSE OPPRESSED FOR THOSE WHO CAN NOT FIGHT
STAND WITH HEADS HELD HIGH STAND AND MAKE US PROUD AGAIN
WE FOUGHT FOR WHAT WAS RIGHT  OUR DEATHS WERE NOT IN VAIN

GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.

HOLD HER HAND

HOLD HER HAND TONIGHT     © Ron Burres

Father, hold her hand tonight
as she leaves this earthly darkness, and walks into your light
She loved you so,
as only you can know.
Dear father hold her hand tonight.

Angels rejoice and sing
as another is coming home to accept her pair of wings
She spent her time well while on this earthly plane,
but now she’s really home

Thank you Father for blessing our lives
 with this special soul
We know she was just on loan.

CHANGE

I am not that man you knew yesterday,
Each day is added onto the ones before
If it were not for that man of yesterday
Touching my life in his own unique way
I would not be who I am
Perhaps,
Tomorrow I will be better.

FORGIVE ME LORD

FORGIVE ME LORD              ©Ron Burres

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK
IF YOU KNOCK THE DOOR WILL OPEN
ASK AND YOU WILL RECEIVE

AS A PRODIGAL RETURNS I PRAY
FORGIVE ME LORD

FATHER I KNOW YOU WEPT
AS MY LIFE WENT ASTRAY
AS MY STEPS AND WEAKNESS
TOOK ME FURTHER AWAY

I KNOW NOW THE LASHES
THAT TORE THE SKIN FROM HIS BACK

THORNS DRAWING BLOOD
UNTIL IT COVERED HIS HEAD

THE WEIGHT OF THE CROSS
AS HE STUMBLED AND FELL

FORGIVE ME LORD
FOR THE PAIN I ADDED THAT DAY

FATHER I KNOW YOU MUST HAVE WEPT
AS YOU KNEW THE PRICE HE WOULD PAY
FOR THE GRACE OF FORGIVENESS
THAT I PRAY FOR TODAY

I KNOW YOU WEEP WITH TEARS OF JOY
EACH TIME WE PRODIGALS TURN
AND HEAD TOWARD HOME
AS WE PRAY FOR FORGIVENESS
THAT WE COULD NOT EARN.

HE SAID
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK
IF YOU KNOCK THE DOOR WILL OPEN

ASK AND YOU WILL RECEIVE

PRAYER FOR GODS BLESSINGS AND CARE

May today be all you need it to be. May the peace of God and the freshness of the Holy Spirit rest in your thoughts, rule in your dreams tonight, and conquer all your fears. May God manifest himself today in ways you have never experienced before. May your joys be fulfilled, your dreams be closer, and your prayers be answered. I pray that faith enters a new height for you; I pray that your territory is enlarged. I pray for peace, healing, health, happiness, prosperity, joy, true and undying love for God.
